For Gianluca Pirozzi, Head of Development for Rare Diseases and Translational Gene Therapy, his work is personal. A few years ago, his then one-and-a-half-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a rare disease for which there is no treatment option.
Gianluca and his family have experienced first-hand the impact having a loved one with a rare disease has on the family. It is this personal connection that drives him in his work at Sanofi Genzyme, where his mission is to develop new treatment options for patients living with rare diseases.
“The lack of hope was the most difficult thing to deal with, for me, and especially for my wife,” Gianluca shared. “That’s why I see drug development as actually building a gift box full of hope for the many patients who today have none.”
