Because each rare disease affects so few people, awareness of these conditions can often be very low. However, there are more than 7,000 different rare disease that collectively affect more than 350 million people around the world. Taken together, rare diseases aren’t so rare.

To bring together this diverse community and raise awareness of rare diseases, you can join Sanofi’s annual global initiative by making a Pledge4Rare

Make Your Pledge4Rare!

Pledge4Rare is free to participate in and all you have to do is pledge to run or walk a kilometer (or mile) or more during the month of February. If we reach our target distance of 7,000 miles (11,265 kilometers), Sanofi will make a donation to a leading rare disease patient advocacy organization.

“Beyond the physical act of running or walking, with Pledge4Rare we are demonstrating that we stand together with all those impacted by rare diseases,” said Sebastien Martel, Global Head of Rare Diseases. “No matter where you are in the world, you can show your support and raise awareness. Together we have the opportunity to make a difference.”

This year Rare Disease Day is on February 29—the rarest day on the calendar—when Sanofi will once again join hundreds of organizations around the world to highlight the impact rare diseases have on patients and their families. Throughout February, Sanofi employees around the world will engage in a range of activities from a 5K run to snowshoeing to ice skating, to contribute to the Pledge4Rare campaign and help raise awareness.

Rare diseases are often difficult to diagnose and treat. Patients can endure a long journey of tests and visits to specialists and can go years or even decades without a correct diagnosis, all the while suffering physically from complications of their disease and psychologically from not knowing what their condition is.

Sanofi has been a proud supporter of Rare Disease Day since it was established by the European Organization for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS) in 2008.

Join us by making your pledge today! Visit during the month of February and share your commitment on social media using #Pledge4Rare.
