Pertussis

Pertussis is a strictly human disease and a slowly progressing one (several weeks). This disease is particularly severe among young infants and easily transmitted by close contact, mainly through coughing. It is an infection of the respiratory tract caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis that lives in the mouth, nose, and throat. Pertussis is highly contagious and it is one of the diseases which does not provide life-long immunity 1.
