Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to the body's inability to produce or effectively use insulin.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the pancreas produces little or no insulin, typically appearing in childhood or adolescence, while Type 2 diabetes occurs when cells become resistant to insulin or the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin, often related to lifestyle factors and more common in adults.
Complications of prolonged hyperglycemia include cardiovascular disease, kidney damage (nephropathy), nerve damage (neuropathy), vision problems (retinopathy), and increased susceptibility to infections, all of which can significantly impact quality of life and reduce life expectancy if not properly managed.

LongitudinAl Nationwide study on Management And Real-world outComes of diabetes in India (LANDMARC)2

Sanofi’s path-breaking LANDMARC study (a first-of-its-kind, large scale, nationwide, longitudinal, real world study) conducted on patients with Type 2 diabetes found that more than 60% of the patients failed to control sugar over three years despite medication, lifestyle changes, and diet. The research revealed that initially, only 37% of participants had sugar levels that were under control by the end of the study. Neuropathy emerged as the most prevalent complication, affecting 82% of the participants with microvascular complications, while non-lethal myocardial infarction was observed in 40% of the subjects having macrovascular complications.
